Houseal Construction team is working 4 days a week, and getting paid for 5 days, and they are loving it.
Bath, NH – Houseal Construction Services LLC is one of the first companies in the renovation industry to adopt the 4-week trend in their hometown of Bath, NH.
Houseal Construction is a home renovation company owned and operated by the husband-and-wife team Kyle Houseal and Meridith Bienvenue. The company adopted the 4-day work week early in 2023, and they’ve seen an increase in productivity, overall happiness, and a reduction in their carbon footprint. Houseseal joined a 6-month pilot program with 4-Day Week Global, and to date, they are the only home renovation company in the program.
With the rise of technology and access to improved workplace systems and communications, the traditional 9-to-5 workweek is becoming increasingly outdated. This has led to a growing demand for a more flexible workweek, including the option that is gaining popularity, the 4-day workweek.
A 4-day workweek is a work schedule that reduces the standard 40-hour workweek to a 32-hour workweek with no pay decrease for the employee. This can be done by either reducing the number of days worked each day or by working shorter days for days a week. There are many different variations of the 4-day workweek, and the best option for a particular company or employee will vary depending on the specific circumstances.
“The 4-Day Week is a business improvement strategy that we have adopted that is centered on working smarter rather than longer and investing in the well-being of the most important asset to any business – our people,” said Meridith Bienvenue, Designer, and Chief Operating Officer of Houseal Construction LLC. “100% of the pay, 80% of the time, but critically in exchange for 100% of the productivity. This means that when you work with us, it’s a 4-day, 8-hour work week, but we pay our employees for a 40-hour workweek.”
“As the owner, to be honest, I was scared and very skeptical before starting our 4-day week,” admitted Kyle Houseal, CEO and Founder. “Getting into it, I find the guys to be more productive and efficient. They tend to keep themselves busy rather than waiting around to be told what to do. And I’d like to think it will keep them wanting to work for an upcoming progressive employer. Personally, I’ve had more time to enjoy my recreational activities such as snowboarding, but I’ve found more importantly an additional day to spend with my family, rest, or if need be catch up on my chore list.”
