Bath, NH – Houseal Construction Services LLC, a home renovation company in Bath, NH, is one of the first companies in the renovation industry to adopt the 4-day workweek. The company, owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Kyle Houseal and Meridith Bienvenue, began the trial in early 2023 and has seen a number of benefits, including increased productivity, overall happiness, and a reduction in their carbon footprint.
“I feel that the 4-day work week gives me time to rest my body,” weighed in Connor, an apprentice at the company. “It also allows me to do personal projects that I wouldn’t normally have the time to do.”
Houseal’s decision to adopt a 4-day workweek was based on a number of factors, including the desire to improve employee satisfaction and boost productivity. The company also wanted to be a leader in the movement towards a more sustainable workweek.
“There’s only one word that I have, and that is AWESOME,” exclaimed Shawn, a Plumber, and Carpenter at Houseal. “More time for my recreation – hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, and feeling refreshed heading into the next work week.”
So far, the 4-day workweek has been a success for Houseal Construction Services LLC. Employees report being happier and more productive, and the company has seen a reduction in its carbon footprint. Houseal is now encouraging other businesses to consider adopting a 4-day workweek, and they are confident that it can be a successful model for other industries as well.
“The 4-day work week is a game changer,” added the company’s office and project manager, Lisa. “I work remotely for Houseal Construction, living six months in NH and six months in FL. Call me an early snowbird, if you will. My fiancé and I wanted to live our best life today, not wait for retirement age. The four-day workweek affords us long weekends to enjoy lake life, walking on the beach, traveling, riding our motorcycles, or just lounge. And if we feel like it, the occasional Friday errand would not be possible while working a full work week. Don’t get me wrong, on the other days, the Houseal team hunkers down, and we get things done! Our team is very productive.”
“As the owner, to be honest, I was scared and very skeptical before starting our 4-day week,” admitted Kyle Houseal, CEO, and Founder. “Getting into it, I find the guys to be more productive and efficient. They tend to keep themselves busy rather than waiting around to be told what to do. And I’d like to think it will keep them wanting to work for an upcoming progressive employer. Personally, I’ve had more time to enjoy my recreational activities such as snowboarding, but I’ve found more importantly an additional day to spend with my family, rest, or if need be catch up on my chore list.”
