How to Release Pressure for Stress Awareness Month

Woodland Hills, CA – April is Stress Awareness Month, and learning to manage stress and find healthy ways to deal with it can go a long way in living a healthy and positive life. That’s why Conni Ponturo, owner of Absolutely Grounded, says that “if you are experiencing high stress and anxiety, these tips will help you feel less pressure in your life.”

Exercise – Think of yourself as getting more Vitamin M. Movement. The night before, lay out your sneakers and workout clothes, have some water before your tea or coffee, and then take yourself outside. If you are new to exercise, go out for 10 minutes and turn around, you now have 20 minutes under your belt. Add a walk at night, and now you are up to 40 minutes. Park further away everywhere you go and take the stairs constantly.

Breath – Your breath controls everything in your life and can bring you into a more present state. It can also slow down your anxious feelings. Try this focused breathing exercise: 

Focused Breathing: get comfortable and inhale for two counts, hold your breath for two counts and then slowly exhale as if you are blowing out through a straw.

“The world is a reflection of how you think. Have you ever noticed how your day starts to determine how it ends and you feel? For instance, if you spill coffee on your shirt as you walk out the door, one by one, things will escalate with your negative thoughts, and you’ll end up having a terrible day,” said Ponturo. “As much as we don’t want to admit it, we are in control of our day. Watch what you say; your body is listening – think positive thoughts and have a great day!”
